Get in the Game
We have been doing this series through the book of James called Get Real. We have been looking at what happens when this faith we say is real intersects with real life issues. We have looked at real issues like pain, trials, temptation and on February 1st (Superbowl Sunday) we looked at a passage that challenged us to get in the game. At the end of the message we talked about how to actually get in the game and make a play.
In the passage James says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
He is talking about taking care of the neediest of the needy. In our city everyday there are people who do not have shoes. In partnership with one of the ministries that Southbridge supports the Raleigh Rescue Mission we put shoes on hundreds of people who did not already have them. For Southbridge it was a way for many hundreds of people to say they want to get in the game and make a play. Lord willing we will not soon forget the Sunday we left church without our shoes.
I have joked with our church that some people must have only been half way committed to this project though as we had several single shoes given.
