Get in the Game

We have been doing this series through the book of James called Get Real. We have been looking at what happens when this faith we say is real intersects with real life issues. We have looked at real issues like pain, trials, temptation and on February 1st (Superbowl Sunday) we looked at a passage that challenged us to get in the game. At the end of the message we talked about how to actually get in the game and make a play.

 

In the passage James says, Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27

He is talking about taking care of the neediest of the needy. In our city everyday there are people who do not have shoes. In partnership with one of the ministries that Southbridge supports the Raleigh Rescue Mission we put shoes on hundreds of people who did not already have them. For Southbridge it was a way for many hundreds of people to say they want to get in the game and make a play. Lord willing we will not soon forget the Sunday we left church without our shoes.

I have joked with our church that some people must have only been half way committed to this project though as we had several single shoes given.

Happy Birthday Southbridge

It is hard to believe that Southbridge Fellowship Church is officially 2 years old now. It seems like just the other day Shanna, Ella and I were trucking across I-40 with a vision to reach this city for Christ. At the time we did not know if anyone would want to be a part of this vision (other than the Toveys who would soon move from South Carolina). That was in May of 2006. Now in March of 2009, almost three years later the church has been launched and hundreds of people have been impacted by God.

God has challenged us to pray big prayers and dream big dreams and I believe that what He has done in our hearts over the past three years and at Southbridge since we have launched  two years ago has been great. The best part is that we are just getting started. While what He has done has been amazing, changing lives, people trusting Jesus Chirst as Savior, people turning back to Jesus, reconciling relationships, breaking addictions, I believe He is laying the foundation for what He plans to do in and through this work at Southbridge.

We played this video on Sunday March 8th. It gives an overview look at what God has been doing at Southbridge.

Back to the Blog

Ok, I started a blog and did not realize this requires some discipline. I am back not like a New Years resolution, but back to blog. My desire is to blog regularly (that means weekly). The plan is that sometimes the posts will be Southbridge specific, sometimes simply things that God has been teaching me, perhaps an occasional special announcement too.
