The Bridge Initiative FAQ’s (part 1)

In my last post I said I would post some Frequently Asked Questions regarding The Bridge Initiative in the next couple of days. Here is part 1:

What is The Bridge Initiative?
The Bridge Initiative is a three-year project, to raise money for the specific purpose of leasing or buying a property for our future facility. The Bridge Initiative makes a way for the people of Southbridge Fellowship to take this next step of faith together.

Why are we doing this?
First and foremost, there are thousands of people in the Raleigh-Durham area that have yet to be connected to Jesus for life change. There are people in our community who we are currently not reaching, some of whom will die and go to a Christless eternity.

While we rejoice that our congregation has grown over the past couple of years, we have to face certain obstacles. One of those obstacles is that we have reached our capacity at our present facility. In order to continue to reach more people in our community, we need to have more space in a new facility. The Bridge Initiative opens doors for us to accomplish this goal and realize our vision of reaching people for Jesus.

What is the objective?
Presently, we do not have property for a building or a specific building to lease. We ask you to give toward the vision— connecting people to Jesus for life change—which has impacted your own life and the lives of your families and friends, so that we can impact even more people.

Next Steps at Southbridge

It is no secret that we are running out of space at the movie theater. With our time restraints, we are not sure how to add another service. We already have two services and two video venues each week.

In November, I shared with our church that the elders were praying about a specific facility as our possible next home. However, we wanted to make sure we were not simply executing a good plan, but were being led by the Spirit. After much prayer, we have decided not to pursue that location. I am so thankful for these men who are sensitive to God’s leading and not simply following a formula to grow a church.

On December 6th, I announced to Southbridge that while we do not yet know the exact location, we believe God is calling us to step out in faith. In January 2010, we plan to launch a financial campaign called The Bridge Initiative, to raise money for our future facility. When our church began, people stepped out in faith and made sacrifices. God has blessed that by making an eternal difference in many lives. We believe during these still early days of this church, it is time for us to take our next steps of faith, and it is going to mean sacrifice for each of us. God is doing a special work here at Southbridge, and I don’t want anyone to miss out on the opportunity to be a part of it.

I will post some Frequently Asked Questions about The Bridge Initiative over the next couple of days.

For us, not about us

Well, Christmas time is over. We took our tree down last night. There has been one reflection this year that has really stuck with me. It is that the Christmas story is for us, and by that I mean it is for all of us.

Luke 2:10 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

The message is for all people. What does that mean? That means the message is for everyone. The message is for black, white, rich, poor, Jew, Muslim, gay, straight, tall, short, all people. The Christmas message is for everyone, BUT it is not about any of us. So who is it about?

Luke 2:11 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

The Story is about Jesus. So it is for us (all of us), but it is about Jesus. While the story is for everyone, not everyone will experience the story of Christmas. Only those who know the savior truly experience the story. John’s version of the Christmas story goes like this:

John 3:16 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John states it is for all people “For God so loved the world…” and the story of a savior being born “that he gave his one and only Son” then he tells us who not only experiences the story, but who gets the greatest gift (eternal life). It is for those who believe IN HIM. It is not merely belief, it is belief in Jesus Christ the way, the truth, and the life, the only way to have eternal life. That is good news for all people.
