Simple Leadership (Part 1)

There are a lot of definitions, ideas and perceptions concerning leadership. I think we make simple things far too difficult. People who only “see” leaders sometimes think that they want to be a leader because all they see is the public part of leading. From their perspective; they see someone who gets to call the shots. They see someone who gets the credit. However, anyone who has actually been a leader knows that is not what leadership is all about. Anyone who has been a leader knows leadership means responsibility. Leadership means burden. Leadership doesn’t mean you call the shots it often means you take the shots. Often times you take the shots of others who have no idea what it is like to lead. Leadership is perceived as a role where everyone serves you. Those who have been leaders know it really means you serve in many ways that most will never know. Rarely will you be acknowledged for this service. Leadership is a heavy weight to carry. If you are a leader you carry the burden, you have the responsibility. If you have responsibility it means you have accountability. Very simply leadership means responsibility and accountability. Are you sure you want to be a leader?
